One of the options is a procedure called epoxy coating. To explain it simply,
epoxy is sprayed into your plumbing system, lining the inside of the pipe with hopes that your pinhole leak will be filled. We do not recommend epoxy coating for various reasons that you can read about for yourself. When that fails and it will, repairs can become extremely problematic. It seems like it would be easy, but it really can cause problems in the longer term.
The slab leak repair option that we recommend above all else is a plumbing reroute. If your plumbing contractor is knowledgeable and skilled, the job should be completed in less than a day and with minimal damage.
Water line rerouting is a simple concept in that with knowledge of how water lines should be run under the concrete slab AND the proper equipment, the specific failing water line can be isolated without ever needing to make any holes in your concrete slab.
Once the failing water line has been identified, a few small holes will be made in the drywall, the failing pipe will be abandoned and a brand new water line will be rerouted through the walls and ceilings, bypassing the old copper line.
At Leak Star we strive to leave your home with as little damage as possible, skillfully fishing pipe through small holes in the drywall and connecting on both ends to the existing water line. Depending on the layout of your home, the needed drywall cuts will vary. We have been able to do a single line reroute with as few as one drywall cut inside the house, under the bathroom vanity, behind the kickplate, with the second connection being made in the garage. That was a record. Honestly though it can and usually is more, but we will do our level best to keep the damage hidden and minimal.
So you do have options for making your slab leak repair. Hole in the concrete, epoxy lining and our recommendation is a simple single line reroute of the failing water line. If you would like to talk about these options further, please give us a call @ 760-519-8466.
