Water Line Leak Detection

Water Line Leak Detection
There are several water lines in a home and or on the property. There are a couple of people who would qualify to do a water line leak detection, but while a plumber may be quaiified to locate at an irrigation leak, it's not generally something a licensed, contracted plumber would do. For that job you would want to speak with your landscaper or an irrigation specialist.

Most liscensed leak detection specialists would be doing water line leak detection in the pressurized plumbing system of your home. In the building and it could include the main water line running from the street to a building.

This type of water line leak detection requires very specialized equipment. Water leaks are usually located out of sight, in the walls, ceilings and even under the concrete.

A qualified leak detection specialist will not just be wildly guessing at which of the many pipes running through your home are leaking. There shouldn't be many if any exploratory cuts to find a plumbing leak. On occasion that does happen as water can be dripping in one location and actually travel many feet or even to another floor below where it will first make it's appearance. But by using infrared cameras often the wet spot behind the drywall can be seen.

An infrared camera can also pick up the heat signature of a leaking hot water pipe from a slab leak under the concrete.

Qualified leak detection specialists will also use very sensitive listening devices, that can in most cases hear a leak as small as a drip inside of the wall or often a spray under the concrete.

When looking for water line leak detection, you should expect that your licensed plumber to have this equipment. Beware of anyone who comes into your house and agreeing with you that there seems to be a water leak, tells you that you need to repipe your house without pinpointing your leak.

My brother noticed that there's a leak in the slab and he wants to have it repaired right away. It was mentioned here that it will be best to hire a leak specialist when there's a leak. Furthermore, it's recommended to hire professionals for quality slab leak detection services.

Thank you for pointing out that an infrared camera can pick up the heat signature of a leaking hot water pipe. My husband and I have been thinking about having a professional inspect our home for water line leaks. It's good to know that a licensed plumber will already have the equipment to find any water leaks.
